Johnny: All he (Captain Jack) wants it to get his ship back. He just wants his ship back, which represents nothing more than pure freedom to the guy.





Jerry Bruckheimer: So, how do I tell the audience that this is not a normal Disney movie, that this is going to be a departure from the movie that their little 4 year old brother can see? So, what I want to do is get a real edgy actor, an actor that has a body of work that's quirky and interesting, and who else but someone who played Edward Scissorhands. Johnny Depp is a brilliant actor and he has had such integrity with his choices.





Johnny: I was a bit confused (laughs) only in the sense that I was just shocked that, you know, that some of the higher ups in such big organizations like Disney and Bruckheimer were thinking of me. I had a really good feeling about it for some reason.
